Review – Mystery Stories: Mountains of Madness

Even if you have never read H.P. Lovecraft’s novel At the Mountains of Madness, you will be surely amazed by the game Mystery Stories: Mountains of Madness, where the plot can just fascinate you. In 1931 you visit Antarctica as an explorer Lynn Morgan and Professor William Dyer and suddenly you found out that your expedition in the team of other explorers is impossible. You make a discovery that all the members of the team were killed and disappeared. Can you figure out who or what murdered them? Is that the Elder Things of ancient myth or anything else?

It is difficult to say that the game reflects the source material completely, however the plot of the game Mountains of Madness is just amazing. You will dive into plenty of beautiful places, scenery, statues and meet interesting characters.Moreover you will easy understand what you have to do by getting different prompts and hints.

In this game you will find excellent hint system which would be great to meet in all the other games. It is good that you can use two hint buttons, one is standart hint button and the second is advice hint. The first tells you where to go and what to do, the second is created to help you without spoiling anything.It is very convenient use these buttons while playing casual mode without recharging( however the skip buttins should be charged up).

While playing the game you are able to do experiments and search for the right direction or items for your character. For example, you find a shovel and then you can dig several times before you will realize that you have to move in the other direction. Choosing any other things like a hammer on a box you get slight hints, which guide you where you need to go. This system is very useful and makes everything around more thrilling.

Most of the time you will play as Lynn Morgan and sometimes will be required the help of Prof. William Dyer, though there are many different characters. Lynn will find many necessary items and together with Prof. William Dyer unriddle complicated puzzles and gather prompts which can help them continue their way. Do not hurry to change the characters while the game because you can be entrapped. Pay attention to your quickly clicks, because you can lose your inventory and mix up completely.

Mountains of Madness is a unique game, which combines both adventures and hidden objects. You will have a chance to search for hidden object items and visit many interesting places. Moreover you can use the objects that you have already found though they are removed from the seen. This is very convenient when you start playing the game again and return to scene.

The main characters Lynn and William speak quite and only one is the narrator who is voiced.
