Review – Them: The Summoning
Introduction
Looking into thumbnail of the game you may say: “there is something about that gentleman” and you are right, he was accused for murdering his wife for betrayal, a lie that someone has delivered to him. The game – them: the summoning asks you to help this couple to get out of the situation and depending on how well you are in hidden object games and puzzles he will be discharged from accusations.
Gameplay
For some reason, game needs to know if you are male or female. Whatever is the importance for the game, it made to type in my name which is unusual habit for me.
I liked my living room inside of my house in the game given to me by developers and wished to have the same in my house, especially that big screen TV on the wall. I was watching news cast telling about the raid by special forces that they have accomplished. Then sudden phone rings breaking my privacy. It was that man asking to come and it was time when I realized that the game was already started a while ago. The first scene of hidden object game is held in spacious room. Belongings(hidden items) are hidden well and not so easy to find. Looking for them is almost as you do at home, like turning over pillows, looking at corners and under tables but without your wife to ask from. That TV cast with indistinct voice of newsman is still running and repeating itself. Would be nice to have it turned off or show a full story at the cost of additional megabytes on the top of the game. Two scenes made my heart to beat faster, first is at friends house when police started knocking down the door and second at police office, when left alone in the interrogation room. You play and mess around the room with a constant fear of inspector who can come in at any time.
Hidden games here are not only point and click but also encouraging. Once you get into taste and speed up in finding items, you are will be cheered all the time. Moreover you have a nice opportunity to collect small stars to score up for unlocking extras. They are blinking very often to show up and by the second hidden game I was able to open all extras. There was not so much need for hints although they refill very fast.
You will notice another kind of games, more difficult, those that are played outside in the street. First is at the gate where you come to play twice and second at the entrance. Hardest part was to find letters and thanks to hints that helped to find them.
Dialogs in the shape of transparent bars are flowing smoothly not obscuring and leaving the background visible. They are changing fast and you can’t read all of them. That is not good, because you will be lost in the events of the game.
Puzzles with are made poorly. Especially the one with finding difference in two pictures on portraits of deceased. I have seen such games in magazines for kids and didn’t think to find them in such serious game.
Graphics
The pictures of the gate and entrance seems are taken from real photos of some house. It is impossible to portray such big landscape in such details and maybe that was the way to save some on painting works. For the rest of the game graphics is brilliant.
Sound
You will not hear any human voice. All communication is through texting on the screen. Music is made on composition of variety soundtracks and every of them are placed depending on ambiance and boosted by SFX mode.
Conclusion
The game them: the summoning is enjoyable to play with a number of well arranged hidden games and puzzles coupled with some creepy scenes. It is of middle difficulty game for an average gamer. Lazy people will find this game as made for them, because with some clicking work they will be rewarded a lot, including bonuses and beautiful places throughout the game.
