Review – Hide and Secret: The Lost World
Introduction
When I downloaded the game I thought – wow, it would be great to be engrossed in the world of Jules Verne with his lost-in-time civilizations and dinosaurs, or to become a well-known Indiana Jones and to start a journey to the lost temple in a search of treasures. But I lost this desire as soon as I began to play and now I will explain why.
Gameplay
When I started to play the game Hide and Secret: The Lost World, I was hoping to see the ordinary picture – the number of locations with the tasks like – find something, do this, go there but no! The player is suggested to interact with the things and characters which surround you and to behave like in the games of quest genre, which I didn’t expect at all. Also I didn’t like the occurrence of the inventory in the game! When you need to move to the next location, you can’t do it as quick as you want because of inventory tool-bar which appears in a form of a pop-up window and it is rather confusing and really irritates a lot because you can’t get used to this at all!
One more thing which made me a bit disappointed was that the cursor of a mouse couldn’t move in several places, and general dormancy of the game, which could happen or because of the big size of game client or because of the problems of the hardware it was played on. That is why I think that the main problem here are the bugs of the game itself which I hope will be fixed by the authors of the game in the nearest future. The playing process brought several problems itself too – many times you had to return back to those places which you have passed already, which I didn’t really like a lot. There were not so many mini-games which didn’t please me also and as for me they were too simple which made me boring on the 30th minute of the game. Also the locations were dull and a bit monotonous, the picture of what surrounded the characters didn’t impress me at all.
The pleasant thing is that there is not only one active character in the game but several, which makes the game rather manifold. Speaking about the situation with a member of a team who was wounded in the leg during the landing. I even forgot about the main task for a while because I wanted to help a person who became “dear” to me and free him from sufferings as sooner as it was possible ![]()
And one of those things which I liked a lot was unusual application of usual things. For example old rusty machete could become a very useful tool, of course after some manipulations or even an ordinary stick could become a real dangerous weapon after you set it on the fire.
Graphics
It is really awful and it surprised me a lot! It touches everything – from the first movie till the game itself. The characters and landscape are also not good. Maybe if I was proposed to play Hide and Secret: The Lost World 10 years ago it would impress me more. The animation of the game is a bit strange, as if it was cut from the cardboard or as there were just photos. There is also no smoothness in movements and during the dialogues.
Sound
The music didn’t impress me at all as I was expecting – dull and monotonous. The only plus of the game are the sounds of the surrounding because really in real life there is no single moment when it is absolutely quiet around you, here is the same. But there are no voiced dialogues and this is a great minus of the project.
Conclusion
As for me Hide and Secret: The Lost World is one of the worse representatives of the hidden object game genre and this shows everything – from bad graphics to the fact that this game is not exactly the one which fits the genre. As for me I didn’t find anything entertaining for myself in it and the game existed in my computer more then 40 minutes which is too much for it, I think.
